About Ravintsara

Ravintsara is one of the most important antiviral essential oils and a cornerstone of French-style clinical aromatherapy. Native to Madagascar, where its name means good leaf in Malagasy, this tree produces an oil dominated by 1,8-cineole (typically 50-65%) that provides powerful immune support with a gentleness that makes it suitable for a much wider population than most strongly antimicrobial oils.

Ravintsara should not be confused with ravensara (Ravensara aromatica), a completely different oil with a different chemical profile. This confusion has caused problems in the aromatherapy industry for years. True ravintsara (Cinnamomum camphora ct. cineole) is the preferred oil for immune support. In Ayurvedic terms, ravintsara combines the sharp, penetrating quality of antimicrobial substances with enough gentleness to avoid depleting the tissues, making it more suitable for prolonged use than the harsher antimicrobial oils like oregano and thyme.
