About Rock Rose

Rock Rose is the remedy for situations where there appears to be no hope. It addresses the most extreme form of fear — sheer terror, panic, and the frozen paralysis that can accompany life-threatening emergencies or sudden alarming events. Dr. Bach described it as the rescue remedy for cases that appear so serious there is great fear or terror in those around the person.

When the Rock Rose state arises, the nervous system floods with adrenaline, the mind goes blank, and the body may freeze or tremble uncontrollably. This remedy restores the capacity for calm courage and clear-headed action even in the face of genuine danger. It is one of the five remedies in the Rescue Remedy combination.

The Negative State

Extreme terror, panic attacks, nightmares that cause waking in fear, frozen helplessness during emergencies. The person may feel paralyzed, unable to move or think clearly. The heart races, palms sweat, and there is a sense of impending catastrophe. This state can arise from accidents, sudden bad news, natural disasters, or severe illness — any situation that triggers the deepest survival fear.

Transformation

Rock Rose transforms blind panic into steadfast courage. The person regains the ability to think clearly and act decisively under pressure. Fear does not disappear entirely, but it no longer overwhelms the capacity for rational response. There is a quiet heroism that emerges — the willingness to face difficulty with inner strength and composure, even when circumstances are genuinely threatening.

Physical Symptoms

Racing heart, shallow rapid breathing, trembling or shaking, cold sweats, dilated pupils, dry mouth, sensation of the stomach dropping, muscle tension or complete rigidity, pallor, feeling faint or dissociated from the body.

Dosage

Standard dosage: 2 drops from the stock bottle in a glass of water, sipped throughout the day. Treatment bottle: add 2 drops to a 30ml dropper bottle filled with spring water and a teaspoon of brandy as preservative. Take 4 drops, 4 times daily. In acute situations, drops may be taken every few minutes until calm returns.

Preparation Method

Sun method. The golden flowers are floated on the surface of pure spring water in a clear glass bowl and left in direct sunlight for three hours. The water is then filtered and preserved with an equal quantity of brandy to create the mother tincture.

Combinations

One of the five essences in Rescue Remedy (with Impatiens, Clematis, Star of Bethlehem, and Cherry Plum). Combines well with Mimulus when terror accompanies a known fear, with Aspen when panic arises from unknown sources, and with Star of Bethlehem when terror follows a traumatic event.
