Yoga (Jyotish)
योग
Pronunciation: YOH-gah
Combination; planetary configuration
JyotishIn Jyotish, yoga refers to specific planetary combinations that produce particular results. These are not random - they are codified patterns recognized over thousands of years of observation. Hundreds of yogas are described in classical texts, each with specific formation rules and predicted outcomes.
Yogas form through: planets being in certain houses from each other, planets in specific signs, planets exchanging signs (parivartana), planets conjunct or aspecting each other, and various house lord combinations. Some yogas promise wealth (dhana yogas), spiritual attainment (raja yogas), or specific life circumstances.
The presence of a yoga does not guarantee its full manifestation. Yogas must be activated by dasha and transit to produce results. The strength of the planets involved, aspects, and overall chart context all modify how fully a yoga expresses. Skilled Jyotishis look for multiple confirming factors before predicting based on any single yoga.
