Monthly Forecast

April arrives carrying double moonlight. Two full moons in a single month — one at the very beginning, one at the very end — and between them, a potent new moon in Ashwini that practically hums with fresh-start energy. If March was about remembering how to breathe after winter, April is about moving with that breath. The question isn't whether change is coming. The question is whether you'll step into it consciously or get swept along.

The first full moon lands on April 1st in Hasta, the craftsman's nakshatra. Hasta energy is skilled, precise, and remarkably capable of shaping raw material into something useful. Whatever seeds you planted over the past lunar cycle are showing their form now. Look at what you've been building — not just the projects, but the patterns. What's taking shape in your days, your habits, your relationships? The hands reveal what the mind intends. This full moon wants you to see your handiwork clearly, both the craftsmanship and the cracks.

From there, the Moon wanes through mid-April, pulling energy inward. This is cleaning-out time — physical spaces, digital clutter, old resentments, dietary excesses from winter. Kapha season is still active, and your body is primed for release. Don't force a deep cleanse, but do support what wants to move. Bitter greens, warming spices, movement that breaks a sweat. The body knows what to do if you stop overloading it.

The new moon on April 17th arrives in Ashwini, the very first nakshatra — ruled by the Ashwini Kumaras, the divine physicians who restore vitality to the exhausted and heal what seems beyond repair. This is arguably the most auspicious new moon of the year for new beginnings. Whatever initiative you've been hesitating on, whatever bold first step has felt too risky — Ashwini says: begin. Not with force, but with the swift confidence of a healer who knows the remedy. Trust your instincts. Move.

The second half of April builds toward the rare gift of a second full moon — what many call a Blue Moon, though in this case it's golden-orange: the Moon culminating in Chitra on April 30th. Chitra is the celestial architect's star, ruled by Mars but devoted to beauty, precision, and inspired creation. Where Hasta shapes with hands, Chitra designs with vision. This closing full moon invites you to zoom out from the daily details and see the larger architecture of your life. What are you actually building? Does the structure serve the vision, or has the vision gotten lost in the construction?

TCM places April firmly in Wood element territory — the Liver and Gallbladder meridians at peak activity. This is planning energy, vision energy, the urge to grow upward and outward. If you've felt irritable or stuck, that's constrained Wood qi asking for movement. Sour foods help the Liver. Side stretches help the Gallbladder. Anything that opens the ribcage and allows breath to move through the sides of the body will feel relieving.

Ayurveda sees April as late Vasanta — spring in full bloom, but not yet Grishma (summer). Kapha is still present but lighter now, more mobile. The heaviness of late winter has burned off for most people. If you still feel sluggish, this is the month to actively address it: dry-brush before bathing, practice vigorous pranayama, favor pungent and bitter tastes over sweet and heavy. The goal isn't to punish the body but to help it catch up with the season.

Two full moons mean two peaks of illumination, two opportunities to see clearly what's usually hidden. Use them both. The month begins with craft and ends with vision — and in between, a healing new moon offers the cleanest restart you'll get all year. April doesn't do subtlety. Neither should you.
