About CV-12 Central Stomach

CV-12 Zhongwan is the front-mu point of the Stomach and the hui-meeting point of all the fu (hollow) organs, establishing it as the supreme point for treating the digestive system. Its location at the epigastric region, directly over the stomach organ, gives it immediate local access, while its mu and hui designations give it systemic authority over all digestive and absorptive functions.

As the mu point of the Stomach, Zhongwan reflects the Stomach's condition directly -- tenderness, fullness, or coldness at this location are diagnostic indicators of Stomach pathology. As the hui-meeting point of the fu organs (Stomach, Small Intestine, Large Intestine, Gallbladder, Bladder, and Triple Burner), it can influence any hollow organ involved in digestion, transformation, and excretion.

The Stomach's role in TCM is to receive and ripen food -- to begin the process of breaking down nourishment so the Spleen can transform it into usable qi and blood. When the Stomach's qi rebels upward instead of descending (its natural direction), nausea, vomiting, hiccup, and acid reflux result. Zhongwan redirects Stomach qi downward, restoring the natural descending flow that is essential for healthy digestion. In clinical practice, CV-12 combined with ST-36 and PC-6 forms a foundational three-point prescription that addresses the vast majority of digestive complaints.
